Inspections have highlighted strong leadership, management and development within Barnies. Both the Proprietor (as the registered person) and Area Manager have completed a BA (Hons) in Early Years and have EYP Status. Self evaluation and reflective practice is embedded into the Barnies ethos. We are enormously reflective, critical and analytical in our approach using a variety of tools and methods to cross examine our working practices, environment and strategies. Barnies promotes and encourages all staff to gain qualifications and continue their professional development. These practices ensure that our focus remains committed and specific to improving the outcomes for the children with a balance of both education and care.

Parents are recognized and valued as the children’s first educators and encouraged to share their experiences. By working in partnership with parents children’s development or behavioural concerns have agreed and consistent responses. Practitioners promote positive behaviour, recognize and diffuse distressing situations and ensure that the care of the child remains paramount. Barnies works on the basis of inclusion and has experience of children with a variety of diverse needs; we are committed to working as part of a multidisciplinary team. We consistently support parents and children through transitional periods, medical conditions, illness and other developmental concerns so that individual and specific care is assured helping all children reach their full potential. We liaise closely with the schools into which the children transfer. Schools consistently provide positive feedback about the transition from Barnies to school and children settle quickly into their new environments.

Our focus ensures that all stakeholders have a clear vision of our mission to improving outcomes for children. Our ethos is derived from our motto:

“ We measure success by a child’s happiness and not just technical progress”
